tarot lenormand adrinka

This week has already been a busy one: I completed the little book that will accompany my Lenormand deck coming out later this year under the LaPanthere imprint. The cards are rich and lush and inviting, my artist shares not just my vision, but my own first name, and Stacey Williams-Ng, the mastermind behind the company La Panthere is a true genius. I am so excited to show you all my cards!

Also, my book, The Language of Lenormand (Red Wheel/Weiser is the publisher) came back to me from the copy editor, and that, too, looks wonderful. I can’t wait to receive my galley copy, because that will mean that the birthing process is nearly over. Look for it to hit the shelves at the beginning of October!

Several speaking engagements are on the books, all of them international in scope, and all opportunities for me to introduce people to Lenormand the way I understand it, and to show them what a hope-filled, healing instrument it is.

This week’s cards speak to the power of creativity to excite and inspire. The first card is Tarot, which, as always, announces the blogpost’s theme. Today, it is the Ace of Staffs (Wands.) In Courtney Alexander’s Dust2Onyx Tarot, the card portrays a “Makpo, of the Fon people of West Africa, and symbolizes the authority of the king or his messenger.” The tip of this staff has a lion’s head, reminiscent of Leo energy, and the wildebeest on the side of the Makpo reminds us of “the importance of seizing opportunities” as well as the importance of discernment in deciding where to put one’s energy.

My partner and I are leaving for Canada next week, and the Lenormand cards, which are Birds, Sun, and Ship, hint that lots of conversations (Birds) full of that creative fire (Sun) will take place on this much anticipated trip (Ship.) While in Canada, we will be speaking on/teaching Tarot and Lenormand, and we hope to have the time and space to map out our next few months, what with both of us having new decks coming out, and me with a new book, and lots of buzz happening around all of it. Ace of Staffs indeed!

The Adinkra symbol Okuafo Pa stands for Good Farmer. It is the symbol for “diligence and hard work, ” and so fits perfectly with the other cards. I am ready and excited to be a good farmer for all the crops I am planting. Let me give a nod to soon-to-be crowned King Charles here, as he is himself an avid gentleman farmer. As an American, I am NOT a monarchist, of course, but I am a romantic. So I will get up early in the morning to witness the coronation. May King Charles be moved to take the advice of this week’s cards, and be creative and diligent in his remaking of a monarchy sorely in need of a modernizing overhaul. Like, maybe start by reading Harry’s book to learn how THAT garden grew, and why it felt new soil was called for. A good farmer tends his crops, right? The Ace of Staffs asks Charles to “find a healthy source that ignites you, and push forward into your destiny.” Charles has an opportunity to reinvent what it means to be king, what it means to have an “empire.” I’m not holding my breath or anything. Well… I kind of am…for Diana’s sake.

Anyway…speaking of mothers…

To all mothers of every ilk, Happy Mother’s Day. Celebrate yourselves even if no one else does. I plan to send a donation to Planned Parenthood, because motherhood should always be a choice, and not a government mandate. Just saying.

Amen and Ase
